Questionable leftovers in the fridge

When in doubt, throw it out

It’s unnerving not to be able to smell if the soup leftover in the fridge is spoiled or not. I don’t remember how long it’s been in there. Maybe since last week. It looks okay, but I can’t smell for sure. What to do?

A few months or even a year ago, a diminished sense of smell wouldn’t have bothered me like it does now. I’ve learned to “see” the world in another dimension, and it’s fascinating. Reverting back to my former sense of smell, or worse, feels like a major loss.

But I’m getting ahead of myself. I won’t know for sure until the swelling from surgery comes down. That will take at least another week or two.

So in the mean time, I’m going with the adage my mother used to repeat: when in doubt, throw it out. No leftover soup for me.
